It All Started in 5th Grade (No, Seriously)

While my classmates were wrangling fractions, I was writing my first lines of code — in C.

Yes, that C. The one that didn’t care if you missed a semicolon. The one that taught you fast that logic mattered and mistakes hurt.

By middle school, I had a computer at home. Picture this:

• A television screen as a monitor

It was duct-tape tech at its finest, and I loved every glitchy second of it. Sure, I used it to play games — but somewhere in between jumping pixels and tape rewinds, I fell in love with what tech could do.

Fast Forward to the Nonprofit World

By the time I landed in the nonprofit sector, I was already building websites while dial-up squealed in the background. This was back when big companies were still arguing over fax machine etiquette.

When I went for my graduate degree? I found a pilot online program — on CompuServe. Not exactly Zoom University, but it worked.

I’ve always been that person:

• First to try new tech
• First to break it (usually by accident)

And yes, I still quote Star Trek like it’s a leadership manual.
